Work In Progress Wednesday with Two Finishes and Extra Ruffles

I've had a big week!  Two quilts finished, including the Superhero Cityscape quilt, blogged about here, and another for a new niece arriving soon!

Do you love diagonal stripes on bindings?  I certainly do.

I used alternating four patch blocks for this quilt, but there's something else called double four patch, so I'm not sure what else to call this one.  I like that it has diagonal lines going both ways across the quilt, although the white ones stand out much more than the others.

Here's the back, just a little bit pieced.

And now for the ruffles....  I'm working on a dress for my munchkin with a little bit of ruffle overload, just how I like it.  I'm pretty sure she likes ruffles too, at least she's never told me otherwise.  She loves to wear dresses and skirts.  I've been doing several kinds of seam finishes with this one and posting tutorials about how to do them, so please check out my tutorials page for more details.  I'll be adding tutes on how to do gathers two ways, as well as a great way to finish the gathered seam once it's all done so it never frays.  No serger required, and it looks pretty darn great, if you ask me.  That will be within the next couple of days, hopefully tomorrow.

This is work in progress on one of the ruffles.

Here's the back of the dress.  I love the ruffled panel down the back.  It also has an underskirt with a another ruffle that peeks out several inches.  I'm really excited to get this one done and get some pics of my munchkin twirling.
I love ruffles.

I'm linking up to Work In Progress Wednesday today.  Go check it out!

  1. I love stripes on binding too - in fact stripes and spots and dots on everything would suit me!!

  2. You have been so busy! Your quilts are darling! And that skirt for your daughter looks like it's going to be so cute! I can't wait for your gathering tutorials). I've made a couple of skirts and that part takes me FOREVER!!! I break the thread a lot and I don't know how you figure out how close to gather it . . . let's just say, I'm probably not going to be doing another skirt anytime soon! My granddaughter will just have to wait for your tutorial! :o)
